Hongyadong

Hongyadong is a cliff, a gate and eleven storeys of building. The natural cave and its waterfall, Hongya Dicui, were one of the twelve scenes of Bayu; the Hongya gate stood here, one of the seventeen gates of the Ming wall and one of the eight kept closed. Timber stilt houses climbed the bank from the 1940s, when water-borne trade brought residents, and they were lived in until 1949 before falling into disrepair. The present complex, built by the Chongqing Swan Group and opened on 29 September 2006, has 53,000 square metres of shops in eleven storeys, four streets inside, and the cliff face still visible.
