A general's temple, taken apart and rebuilt thirty-two kilometres east
Zhang Fei's temple stood on the south bank for seventeen centuries. At 130 to 160 metres above the river, it could not stay.
The Zhang Fei Temple stood on the south bank of the Yangtze under the northern foothills of the Feng Fei Mountains, facing Yunyang across the water, until the reservoir reached it. It was built for Zhang Fei, a general of the Three Kingdoms period, and stood for seventeen centuries while dynasties added to it: a hall with a colossal statue, the Jieyi Tower and pavilions to Du Fu, who lived there two years. The compound covered 2,000 square metres. Between 130 and 160 metres above sea level, it would have gone under the 175-metre reservoir, so it was moved whole.
