Shanwangping

Shanwangping is the high ground in the Jinfo foothills of Nanchuan, a village that gives its name to a karst ecological park at 1,300 metres, with more than 10,000 mu of forest. It was the first national-level karst ecological park in China and one of the first places rated a forest oxygen bar. What the park protects is a forest on bare limestone: thin soil, trees rooted in cracks, and clearings where the rock shows through the grass. It is the quiet counterpart to Jinfo, whose scenic area covers 1,300 square kilometres, and it belongs to a district of 572,000 people.
