Fengsheng: the town that names a range
Nine villages, a bridge, a street and an oil press, in a district where only 4.64 percent of the land is flat.
Banan is one of the nine central districts of Chongqing and was Ba County until December 1994, when the county was abolished and the district set up. It lies south of the Yangtze, and its land is 62.27 percent hill, 32.99 percent low mountain and only 4.64 percent flat, running from 154 metres at Ranjiawan in Majiuzui up to 1,132.60 metres on Fangdou Mountain in Shitan. During the war, when the Yuzhong peninsula was bombed flat, the National Government's actual seat was here. The Wubu River and more than ten other streams cross it, geothermal water is drawn at Dongquan, Nanquan and Qiaokouba, and the district's national key cultural relic is the Nanquan wartime site group.
