The line to the lake: Bishan's rubber-tyred train
Bishan joined the metro in 2019 and added a driverless rubber-tyred line in 2021; the lake park is where the new town meets that network.
Bishan District lies 23 kilometres west of Chenjiaping, on the western approach to Chongqing, and covers 915 square kilometres. It has a recorded history of more than 2,000 years: a county was established in 757 under Yuzhou, and the name comes from Chongbi Mountain. It remained a county for most of that time and became a district in 2014. The climate is mild and wet, with an annual average of 18.3 degrees and 1,231.2 millimetres of rain, though a maximum of 43.8 degrees was recorded on 20 August 2022. Since the end of 2019 it has been joined to the metro at Bishan station on Line 1, and the high-speed railway has cut travel time to the urban area to 15 minutes.
