Huguang Guild Hall

The Huguang Guild Hall stands at 1 Bajiaoyuan Lane off Changbin Road, in Chaotianmen subdistrict by the Dongshuimen bank of the Yangtze. The name covers the Yuwang Palace, the Qi'an guild of people from Huangzhou in Hubei, and the Guangdong guild, built in the early Qing and later. The Yuwang Palace was put up in the Kangxi reign for migrants from Huguang; the guild hall was built around it in 1759, under the Qianlong emperor, and the present building is a reconstruction of 1846. It is the largest ancient guild-hall complex known in a Chinese city centre and holds the museum of the migration that filled Sichuan.
