Longxing is a town under Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area, and its unit list is short enough to read whole: the Yinglong and Yulin communities and the villages of Bishan, Shixi, Heyan, Shimen, Shuanghe, Xiaba, Renmin, Shajin, Dongkou, Paihuadong, Longdan and Heping. Read as a set, the names describe the ground, a wall-like hill, a stream over stone, a river weir, a stone gate, a cave mouth, a village named for placer gold. A town on the northern edge of the built-up city still carries the vocabulary of a place chosen for what the land offered, not for what a plan required.

From county to new area
The town's address has changed twice in a generation. It belonged to Yubei District, which administered Longxing, Shichuan, Gulu and Yufengshan for Liangjiang New Area; Yubei had been renamed from Jiangbei County in 1994, and that county went back to Jiangbei Ting, set up under Chongqing prefecture in 1754. In 1939, with Japanese aircraft bombing the city, the county government moved from Jiangbei city out to Lianglu, and in 1965 the seat followed. In 2025 Yubei was abolished and merged with Jiangbei District and parts of Beibei into Liangjiang New Area, which became a district on 6 November 2025.
