Ramie cloth: a fibre on the Rongchang plain
Hemp and sericulture among the four farming lines of Chongqing's westernmost district, and the plain and livestock economy recorded around them.
Hemp is one of the four backbone lines of Rongchang's farming economy, with pigs, sericulture and tea, and the district lists hemp among the products it produces in quantity. The district record carries no loom and no weaver. What it does carry is the ground: a plain of 899.28 square kilometres by the 1941 county survey, with Dazu and Yongchuan to the east, Luxian to the south and the Sichuan towns of Dongxing and Longchang to the west.
