Jianshan Apartment and the town Lu Zuofu built
A school that ran a farm, a dining room, an apartment and a lime works to pay for itself, in the Jialing mining town of Beibei.
Jianshan Apartment
Beibei is the Jialing River town north of Shapingba, and Lu Zuofu, who ran the Minsheng shipping company, built it out over two decades. The Jianshan Apartment belongs to that building programme: it stood with a farm, a dining room and a lime works that the private Jianshan Middle School ran to pay for itself, the school opening in the autumn of 1930. Around it Lu put up a railway for the coal mines, a hot-spring park, a library started from four hundred donated books, a public park and a sports ground where 1,161 athletes competed in 1929.
