What Remains of a Crossing
Dandong’s Broken Bridge preserves both a piece of river engineering and the interruption that changed its purpose.
The bridge completed in 1911 once crossed the Yalu with twelve spans. Bombing in 1950 left the four spans on the Chinese side that give the monument its present identity. Beside it stands the separate Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge. The older structure survives as a conserved remnant, with an engineering past that began before its commemorative role.
