A Mountain of Ridges and Made Paths
Fenghuangshan’s named rocks, constructed walkways and contemporary celebrations show how a mountain becomes a public place.
This Fenghuangshan is in Fengcheng, the county-level city administered by Dandong; it is not the mountain of the same name in Chaoyang. Zanyun Peak reaches 836 metres. Named features such as Laoniubei sit alongside built walkways and glass structures in the scenic area’s modern identity. Contemporary cultural events add another layer to a mountain whose paths and public meanings have continued to change.
