Where the Peninsula Narrows the Sky: Migration at Laotieshan
Raptors pass a narrowing peninsula while observers turn fleeting sightings into a growing scientific record.
Laotieshan helps connect northeastern Asia’s bird habitats with routes farther south. Its significance lies in movement, repeated observation and protection of habitat, not simply in the number of birds visible on a particular day. Within the wider Snake Island–Laotieshan landscape, Jiutou Hill and Snake Island are mapped World Heritage components. Their protected habitats form part of a larger network of places where birds rest and feed.
