Yongling: Ancestry before Empire
At Yongling in Xinbin, imperial status reaches back into a family’s past. Four memorial pavilions, an offering hall and the archive of a fallen sacred tree show how that relationship was maintained.
Yongling stands in Yongling town, Xinbin Manchu Autonomous County, under Fushun. The people honoured here belong to Nurhaci’s ancestry; Nurhaci himself is buried at Fuling in Shenyang. Memorial pavilions, the offering hall and the enclosed burial area turn family relationships into an ordered ceremonial landscape. Yongling joined the UNESCO-listed Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in the 2004 extension, alongside Fuling and Zhaoling. Its meaning depends as much on ancestry and setting as on architectural scale.
