A Broken Calendar and a Monument Turned into Evidence
Two objects outside the September 18 museum carry radically different histories of the same event.
The museum addresses the Japanese military action of 18 September 1931 and the occupation that followed. Its memorial architecture is modern; some exhibited objects were made during the occupation and later acquired new meanings. Keeping those origins distinct makes the site’s public remembrance more legible.
