The fish traps of Wang'an
On a small island group in southern Penghu, farmers built stone walls across the tidal flats to trap fish. Some are still repaired each year.
Wang'an is a rural township in the southern part of the Penghu archipelago. It is made up of nineteen islands, six of them inhabited, with the main island also called Wang'an and formerly known as Bazhao. The coast is a series of wave-cut platforms, and the sea around it holds coral and green turtles. The township is known for its stone fish traps, its old houses at Zhongshe and the South Penghu Marine National Park, which covers the southern islands.
