The river mouth at Tamsui
A fort, a consulate, a missionary's schools and an old street face the sea where the Tamsui River ends.
Tamsui lies where the Tamsui River meets the Taiwan Strait in New Taipei. The Ketagalan called the place Hoba, the stream's mouth; the Spanish built a fort here in 1628, the Dutch rebuilt it, and after 1860 the port took foreign trade. Fort Santo Domingo, the British consulate, the old street and the schools founded by George Leslie Mackay are within a short walk of the ferry.
