The station that became a studio
Taitung moved its railway out of the city centre and kept the old station. The platforms, warehouses and tracks are now an art village.
Taitung's old railway station stood in the middle of the city until the line was moved east in the 2000s. The station building, platforms and warehouses were kept, and the site became the Taitung Railway Art Village, a scattered campus of studios, galleries and small shops. Nearby are the Taitung Art Museum, the forest park and Pipa Lake. The area is quiet on weekdays and busier at weekends, when markets and performances are held among the old tracks.
