New Taipei.

New Taipei encircles Taipei and runs from the Tamsui river mouth in the northwest to the hills above Yilan in the southeast. It is not one city centre but a ring of old towns: Tamsui at the river mouth, Ruifang and Jiufen in the gold country, Yingge with its kilns, and fishing ports along the northeast coast. The district names still carry the trades that built them.
