The warehouses that outlived the cargo

Pier-2 occupies a stretch of warehouse buildings on Kaohsiung's harbour front in Yancheng District. The warehouses were built in 1973 for cargo, and when the port's shipping moved to newer terminals they were left empty. Artists began using them in the early 2000s, and in 2006 the city's cultural affairs bureau took over the site. The sheds now hold exhibitions, shops and the Hamasen Museum of Taiwan Railway. Two light rail stops serve the area.
