Zhongshan Park

Zhongshan Park (中山公园) began as an exhibition ground rather than a garden. In 1902 Yuan Shikai, then governor of Zhili, laid out the Hebei New District north of the Hai River with Dajing Road as its central axis, and in the middle of that new district he planned a park called the Quanye Huichang. It served as a public park and as a place for political meetings: Sun Yat-sen, Li Dazhao and Zhou Enlai all addressed meetings and presented petitions there, several times. It was later renamed Zhongshan Park in memory of Sun Yat-sen, and it is now listed among the parks of Hebei District together with Beining Park and Yigong Garden.
