A Lake That Had to Be Dug

Dongli lies between the Tianjin urban area and the Binhai New Area, on the east bank of the lower Hai River, and it is where the city's airport sits. Tianjin Binhai International Airport was begun in November 1939 and was the departure point of the first civil aviation route of the People's Republic in August 1950, which is why the sources call it the cradle of New China's civil aviation. At the 2020 census the district had 857,027 residents, with 18.31 per cent of them over sixty. Its best-known landscape is Dongli Lake, a hot spring resort in the north of the district that is counted among the eight great tourist sights of Tianjin.
