The Tianjin Radio and Television Tower (天津广播电视塔), known locally as Tianta, was fully completed in 1991 and was at that time the tallest tower in Asia and the third tallest in the world. It was also the tallest building in China when it was completed, one of the modern towers and skyscrapers the city built as its economy grew. It is listed among the main sights of Hexi District together with People's Park, and Tianta Lake, the water beside it, is itself counted among the district's parks alongside Tuanjie Park, Tianjin Bay Park and Weijin River Park. Metro line 3 stops at Tianta, between Wujiayao and the next station south.
