Beichen District.

Beichen is the youngest of Tianjin's ring districts in administrative terms: it grew out of the Jinbei suburban district established on 14 May 1953, before which the area had no separate administration. In March 1953 Tianjin County was abolished and merged into the city, and four suburban districts were created; on 12 February 1992 those four were renamed Dongli, Jinnan, Xiqing and Beichen. The district government was originally at Yixingbu and has since moved to Beicang town. At the 2020 census Beichen had 909,643 residents. It is the home county of Wen Jiabao, premier under the tenth and eleventh National People's Congresses, and it holds a national-level economic and technological development zone.
