The First Station, 1888
A station that opened with the Tianjin-Tangshan railway, and the three-station pattern it left behind.
Tianjin station (天津站) stands at 1 Xinwei Road in Hebei District on the north bank of the Hai River, and its building straddles Hebei and Hedong: the main structure is in Hebei, while the intercity north station house is in Chunhua Subdistrict of Hedong. The station was begun in 1886 and opened on 5 October 1888 with the completion of the Tianjin-Tangshan railway, the first railway station in the city. The present building was raised from 15 April 1987 and finished on 25 September 1988, with a 66-metre cylindrical clock tower facing the river and a dome mural, Jingwei Filling the Sea by Qin Zheng, which the sources call the largest dome mural in China.
