Beichen

Beichen is the ring district that grew with the city rather than before it. Its territory had no separate administration until 1953, when the Jinbei suburban district was created, and it was renamed Beichen in 1992. Its archaeology is thin but old: two excavated sites have been found, one a residential site of the Yan state of the Warring States beside the North Canal at Beicang town. Its single provincial-level protected site is the Ming dynasty Yawang Temple at Dazhuzhuang in Dazhangzhuang town. The district also holds a national-level economic and technological development zone, and four metro lines, 1, 3, 4 and 5, now run through it.
