Ninghe District.

Ninghe lies in the north-east of Tianjin, one of the five outer districts, and it was placed under the municipality in July 1973 along with Ji County, Baodi, Wuqing and Jinghai. Its name is explained by the historian Chen Tieqing: the Jiyun River runs through the county and caused frequent floods, so the county took the name Ninghe, a river at peace. At the 2020 census it had 395,314 residents, of whom 22.58 per cent were over sixty, the highest proportion among the outer districts. Its dialect belongs to the Jilu Mandarin group rather than to the Tianjin dialect of the urban core, and the southern end of the Tangshan fault runs close to it.
