Yan Xishan Former Residence

It stands at Hebian, the riverside village of Dingxiang County in Xinzhou prefecture, on the flat ground of the Xinding basin where the Hutu River crosses on its way out of Mount Wutai. The record gives the house two names, Yan Xishan former residence and Yan family compound, and one date: it was built by Yan Xishan in the 1920s. In 1986 it was listed as a provincial cultural protection unit; in 2013 it entered the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units. Village, builder, decade and two listing dates are what the record holds, and they are enough to place a modern family seat in an old farming county south of the mountain.
