Stork Tower

The Stork Tower stands at Puzhou town in Yongji, on the Yellow River near the old Pujin ferry, and is named for the storks that used to rest on it. With the Yellow Crane Tower, Yueyang Tower and the Pavilion of Prince Teng it is counted among the four great towers of China, and it is the only one of the four north of the Yellow River. The first tower was raised in the Northern Zhou as a military watchtower; it lasted through the Tang and Song, about seven hundred years, and was destroyed in 1222. What visitors climb now is a reconstruction opened in 2002.
