Wang Family Compound

Several compounds in China are called the Wang Family Compound: in Hebei, in Henan, in Shandong, in Hunan, in Hainan and in Yunnan, each with its own protection status. The one that belongs here stands in Lingshi County, in the prefecture-level city of Jinzhong in Shanxi, and it is listed as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. It belongs to the group of Shanxi courtyard houses, the plain residences that merchants in this basin built with the profits of trade, several of which stand inside this prefecture-level city. The name is shared; the site is not.
