Dayudu: Lifting the Yellow River onto the Plain
An old ferry crossing in Rucheng, the name of a flood-tamer attached to it, and the slope that makes water from the river something to be raised.
Dayudu is one of the old Yellow River ferry crossings in Rucheng county, named with Fenglingdu among the county's historic river landings. Rucheng is the southernmost county of Shanxi, administered by Yuncheng, with an area of 1,161 square kilometres and its government in Guwei town. The land rises in the north into the Zhongtiao mountains and falls south to the Yellow River, so that the river forms the county's southern edge and the fields and towns sit above it. The county also holds several national key cultural relics protection units, among them Yongle Palace, the Xihoudu site and the Guangren Wang Temple.
