The Jin Bronzes in the Shanxi Museum
The museum's Jin gallery, the tomb finds of Sima Jinlong and the Northern Dynasties hall show how the state of Jin survives in metal, and how the museum itself grew from a library of 1919.
The Shanxi Museum stands in Wanbailin District, on the north stretch of the Fen's west bank road in Taiyuan. It began as the Education Library and Museum of Shanxi, opened in 1919 in the Taiyuan Confucian Temple, and is now the largest museum and cultural building in the province, holding hundreds of thousands of objects and a library of old books. Its permanent display is arranged as seven historical themes and five art themes, and the hall on the hegemony of Jin shows the bronzes of the state that gave the region its name. A branch, the Shanxi Bronze Museum, opened in 2019.
