Feiyun Tower, the Flying Cloud Tower, stands inside the Eastern Peak Temple in the centre of Wanrong county town, at 8 West Street in Xiedian town. The temple was founded before the Zhenguan era of the Tang and rebuilt between 1291 and 1297, with repairs through the Ming and Qing; in 1988 it was listed in the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units. The tower is said to have been first built in the early Tang, and its present body follows the rebuilding of 1746, the eleventh year of the Qianlong era. It is square in plan, five bays wide and five deep, 23.19 metres high, and it is known as China's first timber tower.
