Hukou Falls

Hukou is the fall the Yellow River makes in the Jin-Shaanxi gorge, where the stream is squeezed between two provinces. The east bank is in Ji County, Linfen, below Fenghuo Hill at the southern end of the Lüliang range, about twenty-five kilometres south-west of the county seat; the west bank is in Yichuan County, Yan'an, Shaanxi, below Huanglong Hill. The river arrives more than five hundred metres wide and leaves through a channel that gives the place its name, the mouth of a flask. The national geological park was opened in 2006, and the scenic area around the fall covers a hundred square kilometres.
