Shinao Mountain and the Coal City of Yangquan
The hill above Yangquan read through the city's record: coal and iron, the 1906 railway, the 1947 founding and the Hundred-Regiment Campaign monument on its list of sites.
Shinao Mountain rises above Yangquan, the prefecture-level city of eastern Shanxi that borders Hebei and takes its living from coal and iron. The material read for this article describes the city rather than the hill: Yangquan was set up on 4 May 1947 inside the original Pingding County, received Pingding and Yu counties in September 1983, and governs three districts and two counties with 1,318,505 residents in 2020. Its geological coal reserves are given as 10.4 billion tonnes, and the 1906 Zhengtai railway turned it into the coal base and industrial centre of eastern Shanxi. The Monument to the Hundred-Regiment Campaign is listed among its attractions, without any location on the hill being stated.
