Guangsheng Temple

Guangsheng Temple stands on the slopes of Mount Huoshan, seventeen kilometres northeast of the seat of Hongtong County in Linfen. It is not one building but three groups: the upper temple on the ridge, the lower temple at the foot of the slope facing the Huoquan spring, and the Water God Temple west of the lower one. The English account dates the foundation to 147 and says the present name came in the Tang. The building history is later: the lower temple is largely Yuan work, and most of the upper temple was rebuilt in the Ming. It was listed in the first batch of national key cultural relics in 1961.
