A Silk Shop on the List
Number 12 Guyi Street, a municipal relic and a national site, and one of the city's hundred old names.
Qianxiangyi (谦祥益) was one of the many silk and clothing dealers that traded on Guyi Street, and its former shop at number 12 survives as a listed building. The address appears twice in the records: the Tianjin Qianxiangyi silk shop at 12 Guyi Street is listed as a Tianjin municipal cultural relic protection unit, and the Qianxiangyi silk shop former site is also one of the national key protected cultural relic units of Hongqiao District. It is named in the city's roll of more than a hundred long-established Tianjin shops alongside Guifaxiang, Goubuli, Erduoyan, Kite Wei and Clay Figurine Zhang. What the sources establish is its standing and its address rather than its internal history.
