Yuci Old City

Yuci was the county town of this part of the basin long before Jinzhong was a prefecture-level city; in 1999 its old seat became Yuci District. The name Yuci Old City today usually means the tourist development begun around 2000 on the site of the old county town. Nearly all the houses and lanes of the original town, apart from a few protected buildings such as the City God Temple, Qingxu Pavilion and the Confucian Temple, were demolished to make room for a large pseudo-antique street, which now serves tourism and film shooting. Most of the old fabric in that area is gone.
