The Mausoleum of Yao Outside Linfen
A mound in Yaodu District that one tradition calls the tomb of Yao, a national protected site, and one of several places in China that claim him.
The Mausoleum of Yao in Linfen stands in Yaodu District and is a national key cultural relic. The name is used for more than one place: besides this one, a second in Heze in Shandong is protected only at provincial level, and a claim for a tomb in Gaoping can no longer be verified. What the Linfen site holds is a tomb attributed to Yao, the sage ruler of the old texts, in the loess country around the Fen valley. The city takes part of its identity from him, since the central district is named Yaodu after the tradition that his capital stood here.
