Zhengzhou.

Zhengzhou is a working provincial capital, ringed by traffic interchanges and new districts, yet the oldest thing you can walk is a section of rammed-earth city wall from the Shang dynasty, rediscovered in 1955 after a teacher picked up a few patterned sherds while walking near his school. West of the city the ground rises into Mount Song, a short range of granite and limestone cliffs where Shaolin Temple has kept a monastic routine since the Northern Wei, and where a pagoda forest of 228 brick and stone tomb towers grew up beside it. A modern museum built on the excavation pit at the Shang site opened in 2022 and now does the work of a civic introduction.
