Tea Hills and a Cup of Xinyang Maojian
Follow Xinyang Maojian from the named tea hills above Nanwan Lake to the gestures of preparing a cup.
The tea gardens of Xinyang are not one estate but a range of named slopes. Shihegang township, which describes itself as lying on the southwest edge of Shihe district beside Nanwan Lake, covers 306 square kilometres and holds nearly 200,000 mu of tea bushes worth close to 2 billion yuan a year; it calls itself the home of Xinyang Maojian and the source of Xinyang Red. The city's tea pages name the classic hills as five clouds — Cheyun, Jiyun, Yunwu, Tianyun and Lianyun — two pools, Heilongtan and Bailongtan, and one village, Hejiazhai. Nearby, Wenxin Tea Village adds a 4A scenic area with a demonstration tea garden, a hand-made tea workshop and a mechanical processing hall open to visitors.
