The first red capital
For two years, Ruijin was the capital of a state that tried to run a country from a hill town in southern Jiangxi.
In November 1931 the First National Soviet Congress met in Ruijin county and proclaimed the Chinese Soviet Republic, with the temporary central government seated in the town, which was renamed Ruijing. The revolutionary sites of Ruijin lie mainly in Yeping township and Shazhouba town. The place carries the weight of an experiment in government that lasted only a few years, and it is remembered across the country through things named after it.
