A granite mountain and the name it was given
Wugong is the granite range behind Pingxiang, and its name comes down to a ruler crediting the mountain's spirits.
Wugong's main peak, Baihe or Golden Summit, stands at 1,918.3 metres, surrounded by a national geopark of some 378 square kilometres and a national forest park of some 260. The range is a Daoist sacred mountain: the ritual site beside the summit is listed as a protected relic of Jiangxi Province, and Ming gazetteers tie the name to a legend of a ruler and the mountain's spirits. The rock itself is granite, and the meadows above the tree line are the reason people come in spring.
