The room where the date was chosen
The 1927 uprising that opened the Chinese civil war was organised in a hotel that had been built four years earlier.
The former Jiangxi Grand Hotel, next to Wanshou Palace, is a five-storey brick-and-timber building put up in 1923 with ninety-six rooms arranged around a courtyard. It served as the general headquarters of the August 1st Uprising on 1 August 1927; the second-floor east side held the working and living rooms of Zhou Enlai and Lin Boqu. The site has been a national key protected relic since 1961.
