A reservoir with a name from a story
Fairy Lake was a dam built across the Yuan River in 1964, and it was given its name from an old book thirty years later.
Xinyu lies where the Yuan River crosses western Jiangxi, and the reservoir that interrupts the river is called Fairy Lake. It was built by impounding the Yuan in 1964 and named in 1995, after a tale in a fourth-century book of strange records. The city keeps other names as well: a painter's memorial, and a long history of iron and steel.
