Maijishan: Clay figures on a wheat-stack cliff
Maijishan rises above Tianshui with a cliff of grottoes known for clay sculpture and figures built over stone cores. Its caves preserve work made across many centuries.
Tianshui lies in southeastern Gansu, where the western Qinling meets the middle Wei River. The city administers Qinzhou and Maiji districts and five counties. Its municipal overview connects the name Tianshui to a story of a heavenly river pouring water. In this set, Maijishan’s grottoes rise in Maiji District, while Fuxi Temple stands on Fuxi Road in Qinzhou District.
