White Pagoda Hill above the north bank
White Pagoda Hill takes its name from the pagoda rebuilt there during the Ming period. Its paths, calligraphy gallery and river views make it a landmark above Lanzhou’s north bank.
White Pagoda Hill Park rises on the north bank of the Yellow River in Lanzhou. From Zhongshan Bridge the eye goes to the white pagoda on the ridge. A Lanzhou Evening News account of 5 September 2024 says the pagoda was first built in the Yuan dynasty and rebuilt in the Ming, with the present tower rebuilt on the old site in the Jingtai reign by the eunuch Liu Yongcheng, who guarded Gansu. The same account places a stele forest and the Cao Saint Pavilion in the park, with a late-Qing painting of the capital that includes the old pontoon bridge and the hill.
