A reclining Buddha in the old city
Zhangye’s Giant Buddha Temple centers on a large indoor wooden-frame, clay-plastered reclining Buddha. Its Western Xia hall stands within a compound that also preserves later towers and halls.
At 28 Minzhu West Street in Ganzhou District, the Western Xia hall shelters a reclining figure built on a wooden frame and finished in clay. A Ming pagoda and a Qing guildhall share the compound, giving the temple a layered urban history.
