An earthen city on the edge of the oasis
Suoyang City preserves rammed-earth walls and traces of water management in Guazhou. Its ruins belong to a settlement landscape of city, canals, religious remains and tombs.
The ruins stand in Guazhou County under Jiuquan. A 2025 county account describes visitors reading layered wall earth and post-station traces at Suoyang City. A provincial culture-bureau article groups the walled city with channels, fields, a monastery site and tombs, and dates the city roughly from the seventh to the thirteenth century.
