The iron bridge across Lanzhou
Opened in 1909, Zhongshan Bridge joined Lanzhou’s two banks with a permanent iron crossing. Today pedestrians cross it beneath White Pagoda Hill.
Zhongshan Bridge crosses the Yellow River on the middle of Binhe Road. It was opened in 1909 as the Lanzhou Yellow River Iron Bridge and later renamed for Sun Yat-sen. From the deck, the white pagoda on the hill to the north is the landmark the eye meets first. Since 2004 it has been a bridge for people on foot. The State Council listed the Lanzhou Yellow River Iron Bridge in 2006 among nationally protected sites.
