Bingling Temple: Carved into the Yellow River’s red cliffs
On the north bank of the Yellow River, Bingling’s red-sandstone caves preserve a dated inscription from 420, a monumental seated Buddha and centuries of changing Buddhist art.
Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture lies along the upper Yellow River. Bingling Temple’s grottoes occupy a red-sandstone cliff in Yongjing County, while the national intangible-heritage record for Linxia brick carving names Linxia County. The two subjects bring together the prefecture’s river landscape and a craft used in local architecture.
